Teaching: Days like this make the job worthwhile. I have a year 10 student who paints like Oscar Kokoshka. Unlike most of her peers, her painting is more capable than her drawing, but in both the’s a natural. I may break with habit on these pages and post a picture that’s not mine. It’s well worth seeing!
My turn to paint: preparing the ground for a new picture. The idea is a person floating at sea, I’d like the water to look deep. The canvas is ready with a coloured ground ( burnt sienna & pthalio blue). Also started an oil sketch to sort out the composition & some colours.
I need lots of think-time for this one, perhaps a think-tank full.

God, how I love those feet! I’m glad you are enjoying your profession at present, Sir: I am decidedly not. I had a hysterical, shouting, angry, hurt parent last thing on Friday who went home quite sanguine after a meeting we’d had the previous afternoon to discuss the possibility of investigating her son’s ‘difficulties’, and came back crazed. I think the penny dropped over night – perhaps she recalled reading The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time at her book club, and suddenly realised the dreaded ‘A’ word could be on the cards. Huff. I am sorry for her, of course, but rather sorrier for myself, a thoroughly wounded messenger. Oh well.DON’T put your student’s work up here, by the way! Not unless you just make a link to view it elsewhere – perhaps you missed the fine print in the user agreement you signed up to when you started this Space: You agreed that Microsoft Corp. owned all rights to text and images posted on its Spaces, and that it could make such use of any content in any way it chooses, etc. etc. and forbids its publishing elsewhere. Stinks, doesn’t it? Nothing like biting the hand that publishes you, however, and giving it a vicious mauling. Take care.Joss

Wow. I thought the space name looked random to I investigated, I was right. Pretty cool though, I have to do a standard grade art exam in a few weeks and I think I have to do a still-life or a self-portrait. I think it’s boring but your art is cool! And I am guessing that you teach art. Anyway, bye.
