BMI 23.4

12°C, grey but dry.
Two months ago, I weighed 14St 12lbs. That’s too much, clothes were getting tighter, and my BMI was at the top of the range (25).
Most of it was lost on the Scotland hiking trip: 8lbs lost, 2lbs in Corsica and the rest since the return to work.
All I want to do is keep it just below 14St.

Easter chills.

8°C, strong NW with heavy rain pm.
Scratch plans: no cycling, camping, nor hiking.
The weather is terrible and I am full of cold. Even cutting some planks for the fire, I was left exhausted. So otherwise, I  can’t do much.
Here is my bike, whispering ‘can we go out yet?’ Imagine that in a voice like the snake from Jungle Book.

There it is, gathering dust instead of mud. That’s not right, I tell you.

Bostin headache.

8°C, light NW, white cloud.
I rode Arrow with MapMyRide+! Distance: 16.2mi, time: 01:08:00, pace: 4:12min/mi, speed: 14.3mi/h.

Took one of the shorter routes back to my sanctuary. A headache started in the last hour at work. It lifted during the ride but returned later.
In fact, it went all night. A line of tense scalp and fuzzy mind affair. Could it be a migraine?
Even the following morning it was still present.

This gear is ready to roll now. 10 cogs have tiny teeth and the ratios are close together in this set: 11-25. The cassette doesn’t feel that heavy, but to be sure, I will put the wheel on the scales.

Chamois cream

13°C brisk SW. Sunny and dry.
Chamois cream Is a little secret held by cyclists. It’s not something to rub into the Chamois in your shorts, so a misnomer really. It’s rubbed around your arse. A cream that is mild  anti-septic to reduce saddle-sores. Are you thinking it should be re-named? If it were called arse-cream, do you still think it would sell? A tube of whiteish arse cream? No!

In small print on the back, are the ingredients and a product warning:

Lawers have left their footprints here haven’t they?

74 lengths

2°C, dry early, snow later.
Swim after work, last week a guy suggested not alternating strokes and settling into a rhythm.
I did so today and it works smoothly. In all, 74 lengths. Only stopped after getting a bit of cramp in my feet.
64 lengths is a mile in a 25 metre pool. Sorry to mix scales.

Two weeks, what’s the plan?

9°C, mostly dry.
Two weeks until my 50th birthday. So how best to mark the occasion? Best idea so far- do one activity each month for the year. Taster days, like the velodrome in Manchester, a training course at Plas Y Brenin near Capel Curig in Snowdonia.

This is the Raleigh cross bike. The top tube is almost level which makes it easier to shoulder. I don’t like the outboard rear brake. Besides that, the frame should be good, the wheels even better.

Take the load off your feet: how to deal with achilles tendinopathy

Interesting, although it is written for runners. The symptoms reflect my experience over the last few years. I experience stiffness when I get up, from sleep or long periods of sitting. Doctor can I have a note excusing me from marking?
I do various exercises to build load bearing limit in my calfs, as instructed by the physio.
Winter has worsened it over the last two years. Perhaps the cold mimics the same mechanism as sitting still- circulation.

Got up and went.

10°C, rain at last.
First rain of the month. The ground is very dry, dusty and hard. I have missed much of it with this persistent cold. Rain smells different when it falls on dry ground, after a while, a sweet smell rises.
I don’t know how this illness affects my annual milage; 6,000 as a target is marginal now. There still remains a few days before I can ride again.

Galaxy Mini 3.

17°C, grey still.
Still poorly, but the aches and racing heart has stopped. Today has been restful.
Just good day then, to set up a new phone. I bought a Samsung Mini 3 which seems to work far better. There are things that I miss, the device status widget, mid-word switching predictive text off. Gingerbread’s keyboard was better though apostrophe use is easier now.
In use, it runs far better: I won’t be late for work waiting for the GPS app to load. GPS reception is better, the phone latches on at home now, no more missed tracks until I am 2 miles out.
Hope I get used to this keyboard soon.
