Roberts Sound 66

8°C, clear but still damp.

DAB/iPod clock radio: ‘Tis a shame that it’s faulty. The sound is smooth, it’s reasonably easy to set up and has some nice detail features- you can set the alarm for one-off, daily or weekdays. That’s neat, I only need to switch off the alarm for each holiday instead of each weekend.

Roberts 66

The sound quality is good, certainly better than my old clock-radio. It’s a little rich and bloated in the bass & lower mid-range but there is an equaliser setting to hide the worst of this. It really needs a treble tweeter to add sparkle to the sound though.

Abundance of caution

14°C, grey, dry

playtime in Pripyat

Fix, mend, repair: that’s what holidays are really for. Today it was the shower’s turn to mend. The door has new runners and it’s all smooth running now. Did a few other things too boring to post here (as if my shower is interesting).

Oh, and my twisted knee is on its way too- I can walk on it. I felt nothing on a quick session with the turbo-trainer, no pain, no stiffness, nothing. I must be cautious though.

Arrow: like new

3°C, clear & the sun’s coming up.

freshly unwrapped.

New bike: well, it cost as much as a new one, it looks new and I’ve got to put it together today. That latest cold is guilty of stopping my cycling for over two weeks now.

I’m starting to get annoyed at the poor WordPress service, this morning I have made 3 attempts to complete a post started yesterday which resulted in no response from WordPress’s servers.

immunology

18°C, cloudy & warmer

That lurking cold have come out of the shadows. Nose blocking, with sore chest and mouth. The curious bit, though is that Achilles tendon. Why, when I have a cold do they hurt? Do these viruses go global in their attack on tissue types or is it just certain types or membrane? Any immunologists out there who could offer an answer?

Symphony No.4

Am I right to be annoyed that I couldn’t get the insert booklet out of this CD case without tearing it?

Penultimate day

8-20°C, cloudless & calm (high pressure)

Oh dear– it’s the last day of the holiday & there is so much unfinished. The kitchen taps remain half complete- though this half should be easier.
One class of marking to go.

Angelica & wasps

17°C, showers & sun

Why do the yellow-jackets love the Angelica so much. There they are; still out there, all over it, collecting, not stinging.  Nothing else in the gardens draws them. It’s the same in the garden centre.

Plumbed

22°C, rather humid. Cloudy

Plumbed in the 2nd waterbutt. It collects an overflow from the first which works. I used various containers, and a dustbin to hold the water while I worked on the tank (the whole point is to svoid wasting water) then put it all back in.
This all means that I feel rather clever right now.
There is rather a nice phot on my phone of our toad, I don’t have a ready way to getting it off yet.

Got energy back today.that fizz returns, the one that makes me get up and do stuff. the first week of Summer holidays is like this form most teachers, it seems.

Summer holidays

16°C, thundery showers

It’s always like this– very tired, lethargic and teetering on the edge of a headache. Now I feel it, now I remember that most summer holidays start like this. It takes a good few days to feel normal.
