It’s a zebra officer

10°C

Zebra :: crossings are a place that cars stop at so that people can cross life-threatenting roads. The cars stop when they can see a person standing waiting to get across. Most of them do it in response to a law that insists. Some don’t and I’ve ranted about this practice in the past, but today was quite astonishing. The car was all stripey, but not black & white like a zebra- more that police car way. The police driver wasn’t in a hurry to either get anywhere, nor in a hurry to stop.

Astonishing.

No smoke

9°C,+light showers

Interesting news: smoking in pubs is to get banned by the Gov’t. BBC. About time too! Just what I was hoping for when I used to go to pubs more often. there are still about 25% of the population who do smoke, though that figure is still falling.

Yes it is cold

0°C: thin fog.

Everyone is complaining about the cold. Lots are also complaining about the inadequate heating in school. We’ve had this weather for almost three weeks now. So today I decided not to fall victim to it. I took 2 tee-shirts to wear under my school shirt+tie and slaos my thickest wolly jumper. There are others on the staff who use the tactic of wingeing. Their tactic isn’t working. It’s not getting any warmer. My tactic is better, but I’m not fighting for any "principle". "It’s the principle" is not generating any heat, so forget the principle ladies & put an extra tee-shirt on.
And pupils, do you really expect any sympathy when you complain of the cold while dressed with bare mid-rifs?

Surrealism
This is surrealism.
Read the link……the best bit is here:

In Jordan, an independent tabloid, al-Shihan, reprinted three of the cartoons on Thursday, saying people should know what they were protesting about.

In a separate article, the newspaper’s editor, Jihad Momani, urged the world’s Muslims to "be reasonable" in their response to the drawings.

The paper’s publishers sacked him hours later over the "shock" he had caused, Jordan’s official Petra news agency reported.

Has he been sacked for asking people to be reasonable?

and this bit:

There has been widespread anger over the cartoons among Muslim nations and communities.

Why? Why are they angry about "cartoons"? Is ity because they perceive them as blasphemous? What’s wrong with blasphemy? Is their relgion so fragile that it should be defended against cartoons? If so, it’s not a very substantial religion then.

Boris Johnson summed it up well:

Conservative MP Boris Johnson told the BBC the Muslim religion should not be treated with kid gloves.

He said: "If you are a Muslim and your faith is strong and you believe in God and in your prophet then I don’t think you should be remotely frightened of what some ludicrous infidel says or does about your religion or any depiction he produces.

Grow up children!

Dull & warm

9½°C, like yesterday.

10°C today, it’s tooo warm! I have worn too much to cycle to work, am opening the windows in each room, and so on. I recall last autumn when temperatures droped down to 10 feeling quite cold. That must be acclimitisation.

I’m too tired ot write more. I’m to tired to write anything less dull too!

Satur nerd day ( *a-hem*)

9°C & dropping, sunny bits

Copyright: we hand over copyright to Microsoft when we write these space blogs. How does that actually work, and why? When we upload a picture, the file name changes, so the picture you download is different, I bet it changes in other ways too, size exif data and so on. The pictures I have loaded here are all mine. I can easily prove it because the origonals are hanging from nails on the walls of this room. Perhaps MS are trying to claim copyright on the digital images that are generated by uploading one of our own.
It serves to remind me that countries aren’t ruled by those we think. Ours are ruled by lawyers.

….I’m off to play a game now.

Broken

8°C,

Weather:
The gloom has cleared. What a relief, the ride to work was partly illuminated by some dawn twilight. that afternoon of grumpy bike fixing – dodgy chain links, brakes, lights and so on.
No painting posts for a few days now- I’ve not been all that well. Nothing serious, but it was tiring. Now is ok, brightness looks likely tomorrow.

Puzzling software: What are Macromedia Contribute and Flashpaper. I told the technician at work that we didn’t need them, but now, it looks like we do (at least the Flashpaper). We need pdf rendering software in school, not just for DiDA. This lone looks just as versatile as Adobe’s offering, but it’s included with a suite of software that we already have. No need for new licences.

Midwinter

10°C, clouds up quite high.

It’s mid-winter, yesterday may have been the shortest day, but either the afternoons get shorter or the mornings still lighten later, I can’t remember which way round it is.
OK just found it: daylight hours. Currently, sunset and sunrise are both getting later. the worst dark mornings are around the 2nd January. 12 December has the worst sunset time. The two cycles are out of phase by about 3 days.

Talking of cycles: 33.4 miles on muddly lanes = nice warm feeling with the urge to sleep deeply.

Painting: Twohat has a new hat. It’s getting a bit ripped in places. The faces are still terrible, I feel like going back to the previous method ( orange+white+B. sienna), it seemed easier to introduce deeper colours in shadows. On shadows- it still lacks the "self-shadowing" effect that marks out the more realistic pictures; yep- that’s the key for this one!
Oh well, too tired to decide now.

Will it? Won’t it?

10°C; lot warmer

Will it or won’t it arrive before christmas. I may as well cancel that book order I placed with Amazon in September, but curiosity spurs me to find out exactly how long it does take.

Dear Customer,

We wanted to give you an update on the status of your order [**********].

It’s been 3 to 5 months so far!P>

Tchoh!

Made dinner with some packet stir-fry yesterday. It said "ready to cook in 6 minutes".

Why wait 6 minutes before you can cook it?

Ice effect

from -1 to +2°C, snow

Snow this afternoon, classes all "Wooo’d" & threw snowballs after. Driving home was no inconvenience after I got out of the car-park. The wheels span, but it ran straight. Now it’s due to melt, then re- freeze into black-ice. tomorrow is due to be hazardous.

Besides all that, I’m Besieged by a tiresome virus. Throat sore and voice deep, like a dark cloud looming. It’s a bad idea to feel ill in cold weather.

3ds Max and Particle flow and Video Post. It doesn’t want to work with Video post, mind you – while trying out effects, I found this neat trick- I can get electric sparks to dance about an object ( in the image below) look at the bunsen burner.
