5°C, clearing & cooling

The Clock radio saga continues- it has to go back. Roberts agree that it’s faulty and needs  replacing. I was, however, quite complimentary about its design which means I want a replacement (not my money back). If only it had tweeters, that really would lift the sound quality.

The cold returns, tonight -1°C expected but it doesn’t feel as cold as last winter.

Buying stuff

8°C, showers clearing.

Collecting the bike after its re-spray. It’s going to cost big monies, about £100 more than I thought. High up on my wants list is a laptop computer too, but I don’t get paid for another week.

Hawthron berries

Blogging: I haven’t posted much recently, not because I have run out of ideas but because WordPress is unreliable. Too many times i have tried to post and the server has not responded, it’s as unreliable as MS Live’s service was & they shut that down.. This is frustrating.

Notorious

12°C, clear.

Hitchcock film (1946): Strange how they used to make them. Cary Grant’s performance was the big puzzle for me- he was an actor right? that means he was paid to act- not just read out his lines. Or is that how they did things back in the 40s? It felt, to me, like I was watching a football manager talking, all I wanted was for the guy to say it as if he meant it. It’s true that modern films from the US are typecast, full of unadventurous clichés and mostly un-creative; but so was this- from a master director too. I didn’t dislike the film overall, but Cary Grant’s performance was hopeless.

poo in the post

17°C, rain, clearing

Took a sleeping bag back yesterday that wasn’t the size I asked for. The woman in the shop was quite curt about it, she said “it’s a standard size”, (they come in 3 sizes) but doing this, she was also talking on the phone, how rude. Anyway, it was soon clear why she was in a bad mood. She was dealing with a letter of complaint sent by a woman who’d tripped outside the shop. Enclosed with her letter was a bag of dog-poop. I wonder whether that’s a crime, perhaps assault? She said that the police explained that it’s a “civil matter”.
I got my money back.
I know that when you’re annoyed with someone, the thought of sending a bag of squit has a greater appeal. But to actually carry out the thought is mad. Sad to have to simmer and suffer with that kind of resentment, normally, it just evaporates.

Dangling ‘gentlemen’s bits’

13°C, some rain under grey sky

Corkscrew Hazel : is displaying his man-parts. they dangle and flap in the wind, sharing pollen.  This may be why I have slight hay-fever symptoms.

The same plant has opened its ladies-bits too, tiny purple buds just opening; a certain sign that spring is under-way.

Apologies: Pope’s turn, the Pope writes a letter of apology for child abuse by the presthood in Ireland. Apparently Germany are in interested in a similar thing, the RC church have been sheltering child molesters for some time, probably centuries. A few years ago, they apologised for their previous support of the Holocaust during the Second World War too. Let’s hope we get more apologies for other abuses of trust by the church this year, culminating a a big one for centuries of lies and general making-it-up about all sorts of fundamental human beliefs.

Why this one?

9°C, bad of rain tonight, dry until now

Why is this a news story? : Knox-Kercher murder case. Why, of all the murder trials going on in the world has this one floated to the top of the popularity ratings of the media.

A vague guess: it’s a story starring pretty people. Some papers are discussing their ‘surprise’ that this crime was committed by people who are not the archetypal evil criminal.Maybe it is a surprise if you take the hollywood-shallow notion that criminals are possessed by some evil force, in the christian understanding of the word.

Holly recommends Mike Leigh’s "HAPPY GO LUCKY" (2008) on Channel 4 tomorrow. Take note.
