Graphics tablet

Got:pen

Now the tablet itself is playing up, after all that fuss too.
Anyway, here is a small sample of a doodle drawn with it a few months ago when it was working well.

Ironically it’s this tablet that got me into oil painting, I bought it when I bought Corel Painter 8, but real paint and brushes are easier and more effective them computer paintined pictures. the picture below was made in Alias’ Sketchbook – which is an outstnading program that very closely simulates the feel of real pencils & paper.

Pthalio Blue and Rose madder

For a laugh

Here’s a little doodle in oil I did yesterday – just for fun. It’s like an experiment to get to know how these two colours work.

Then:resumed work on the teapot head today, this picture is certainly having a long gestation period. Somehow it didn’t really get going tonight, probably because my concentration has run out. I like this picture a lot, so no risk of abandoning it.

finally- to finish a beautiful site to go to next:
This is the best day of your life

Zinc:White

Pthalio Blue + Rose Madder

Didn’t think it would be that different to titanium white! It’s going to be great for glazing and maybe frottes.
Anyway, tried out a puzzle I set myself this evening, build a whole painting with Rose madder and pthalio blue, mind you choosing whites got distracting, – ended up with Titanium and zinc whites on the palette  ( and the canvas paper).

Dogs bearing gifts

Dogs at the door
They are social animals, they bring offerings to greet you as you arrive home. They announce your arrival with a few barks but then go quiet while they search for something to offer as you open the door. Usually it’s a stuffed fur-fabric sheep, or an orangotang. They however, feel rent by a terrible dilemma. The toy is theirs, and you aren’t going to get it, it’s ok for you to chase them for it, but you ain’t going to get it! Yet still that same toy is the offering.

While caught up with this, the dog paces on the spot, wagging and looking sideways at you…

Using HTML:How to

Trying to work out how to chnage the formatting on my posts, here’s a clue- you have to create a link-bar button, it looks like it contains a little javascript which releases a few extra features like founts and backgrounds. Now you need good access to a html code reference.

HTML How to

Using HTML/CSS in MSN spaces is extremely limited, so far ives found out that iframes, forms, padding, and linked css do not work.  But I am sure there is a use for the things that you can use, or someone will find a use;

1. Open a entry

2. Click edit it (probably best you save this in your favourites)

3. Check the tick box on the bottom of the entry box named ‘use HTML to create your page’

You will now beable to see the raw HTML, bar the start and end tags of a typical HTML document.

56 miles, is that all?

Theory:pre-illness

I have this theory, or is it a hypothesis, it goes like this:
This morning I woke up feeling mildly conscious that I may or may not have a cold coming on. Yesterday I had bags of energy, I chopped down a tree at 7 in the morning & thought the Lumberjack song. So is there a link?
Not with the song but having loads of energy before getting a cold. There are a few times that this has been noticable pre-illness in the past.

I rode 56 miles today, the route outwards was fine, but the return was tortuously slow. Now my tiredness matches a 70 mile ride so that nervous feeling of pre-cold has cost me 20 miles.

Later:Shopping

Remember my rant about Trust computer peripherals?: Well I found an online supplier that deals in Nisis replacement pens, they are identical apart from the colour. Ordered one replacement pen.

Cut down a tree

Get-up:05:30

Saturday: wake at 5:00 am, have a lie-in until half-past, then decide to chop down a tree that has partly died. It’s a lilac tree, some branches have died off leaving others appearing fine. Didn’t really have the right tools, so used a small hatchet and a hand-saw. It’s fun to do , but may hands are rather shakey now.

Never, not ever!

NEVER:Drink

Don’t ever if you need to do something creative. Which reminds me- I can’t belive how many times it was suggested over the years that trying drugs is a way of finding artistic inspiration. Maybe it’s an impression amongst uncreative people who have used the damned things, maybe they think that it would help. There is no way in hell that they could be more extremley wrong.

There’s a party going on downstairs. everybody is saying "Eek".

no way in hell.. Then they said "Eek!"

Tin Fish

New:Albums
Kristin Hersch- grotto
Tricky- Nearly God
Tricky- Maxinquay
Dead Can Dance- Within the realm of a dying sun

Some of the above are chosen because they sounded promising on p2p download copies. Now I have the CDs they have been deleted. they are soo much richer and more detailed sounding than those fuzzy/hazy mp3 versions. It’s rather hard to see how some can claim that mp3 (and WMAs) can be almost as good as CD, ridiculous. The sound from the speakers just puts the lie to that myth, don’t people care that they are so far away from the real sound of music?

Painting:progress

Tempted to leave the background in dry looking spirit+paint and work up the forground in linseed. need to re-think the way I use yellow, specifically Cadmium yellow is causing problems when it’s near any blue or green. Chrome yellow doesn’t seem to discolour in the same way.

Penderecki & Diamanda Galas

always:think of the best notes when walking the dogs, let’s see how much I can remember.

Music:Today, Marilyn Manson and Arab Strap. I have a sneaking curiosity about M. Manson- it’s like revisiting the root, a return to start. It makes me think of the music listened to in the past, Penderecki, and Diamanda Galas. Both have qualities hinted at in MM, the male vocals, the mix, the choir stuff. Wait I can sense some Tricky there too. Follow my links if you have any interest in Manson. There you can listen to the real thing. I suppose manson must have some real poigniancy for listeneres of the goth/thrash rock genre. Perhaps they even feel that it’s somehow radical. I can understand that given the right frame. But do follow my suggestions!

NEXT:Paint
How frustrating, can’t say muchb about the hush-hush project, it’s made considerable strides today. On the third layer, the paints getting richer and in parts, opaque. Looking forward to linseed which hasn’t touched it yet. Colours are starting to happen, just moving away from teh children’s book ilustration look. I love it when you can start putting in wrong colours, especially in shadow areas – just to make the right colours more so.

Have you looked at those Russian painters web sites I posted yesterday? Go on…
