Finally done a 100 mile bicycle  ride. I took a steady pace right from the start and had two cafe stops. There was some rain, some light wind from the east but it brightened up later.
The best thing is that I was comfortable right to the end and felt alert too. I could have kept going, maybe another 20 – 30miles with a snack stop. Perhaps the moderate weather meant that there was no dehydration to cope with
The bike was faultless, and comfortable too. All that maintenance work in the spring was to avail.

That profile looks like the Alps, but the app stretches the vertical scale. Staffordshire does not look anything like that.

After work ride

Windy & cooler, CR:25 miles

Rode after work today, the shower has been cleaned of legionnaires, but is has to be tested before I am allowed to use it. Early evening light is fading fast now it’s September, but at least I could ride the ‘best’ bike and choose my route. A real feature of holiday rides is the effect of proper rest. Real athletes must benefit so much from deep rest, the effect on your energy levels is so strong.

Missing a day’s ride in the holidays feels just like stress, by the end of the six weeks, you need to ride.

mid-break jangles

19°C, light cloud. CR:26 miles

Mid summer holiday causes a strange feeling. It really does take three weeks to recover fully so that now I have to carefully harness the physical energy that’s liberated. Perhaps soon a trip to the Scottish highlands. With time running out, I have to worry that I’m using this time wisely. The decorating is underway, I like the colours I have chosen and the first layers are showing the effect. I want to use the multi-surface reflections which give richer colours in areas like corners and alcoves. The trick is to use several colours that are very similar. The bounced light takes on the surface colour before illuminating adjacent walls. It works a treat!
