On the left

sunrainbutnocycling

How can you tell if an artist was left-handed?
The most obvious clue about an artist’s handedness is in shading. Keep your left elbow still, and wave your left hand infront of your across the keyboard. What diredtion does your hand move- top-left-to-bottom right? Artists tend to do shading of large areas in that difection too ( if they are left-handed). Watch out for the times they have turned the paper round, or used cross-hatching. You’ll have to judge it and come up with a probability.

It’s harder with paint if brush-strokes aren’t visible in which case you’ll have to look at the composition. Left handers find it easier to draw face profiles looking to the right. So if there are more faces looking to the left, then possibly the artist is a right-hander.
Here’s a list of some:
Appel, Karel
Crumb, R.
Dufy, Raoul
Dürer, Albrecht
Escher, Fuseli, Henry
Holbein, the Younger, Hans
Klee, Paul
Kollwitz, Kathe
Lautrec, Toulouse
Landseer, Sir Edwin
Leonardo da Vinci
Michelangelo Buonarotti (ambidextrous)
Munch, Edvard
Picasso, Pablo
Raphael
Rembrandt van Rijn
Rubens, Peter-Paul

Bristol

19°C

Today is a day to remind oneself what an adorable city Bristol is. Imy wanted to see the university since it’s on her list top apply for.
Ten years must have passed since the last time I was in Clifton Triangle/village or Park Row. As the day wore on it all came back to me- bit by bit, there was no sudden revelation as I got out of the car. We went without a map. Things did click into place throughout the day. Finding my way around got easier and easier.
The traffic is still horrendous, but there is such a great atmosphere. We didn’t make it to Montpelier, so therefore saw no dogpoo.
Before we left, we (accidentally) found a cafe that I used to frequent for a final snack for the road. Everyone else in there was either reading  or writing, each one was alone. That is a rare sight in Cafes here.

We played onthe limestone slide near the Suspension biridge, shopped in Habitat. And best of all, I bought the new Arabstrap LP from one of the many record shops.  It was just like old times ( except I wasn’t on my bike).
Aand, there are still loads of cycle shops, at least 4 were visible.

Done it!

Very windy

27 miles cycling- it’s getting dark too early.
FINISHED the Japan trip Video, it’s on a DVD here on the desk waiting to be tested on a set-top box. The last hold-up was a problem with sound at the end. Now it’s all done, though it took ages to render/process/whatever before the final burn to disk.

Found a very useful site about windows security
Techtrax. Now the pictures in my site are a bit more secure- hurrah for templates and javascript.

Tremble

14°C, heavy rain

This dog is rather terrified of fireworks. Even if she hears them from in the house she hides and trembles. No point taking her for a run in the dark then. An odd deal indeed.

The current painting is turning into a real struggle. Hopefully I can post a progress shot tomorrow. It needs some strong inspiration, the lighting is all confused and so am I.
Blame this cold in my head.

One more day

14°C,

that painting is hideous! The Sprite one I mean. Last night I added a much thicker layer of frotte to give the face some body, also started to blur the edges. Note to oneself- get radical with it- temple-forehead-nose is grossly underdeveloped. I hate paintings at this stage; usually doing a quick A4 picture diminishes this uncomfortable feeling.

Fireworks are bothering Bessie. She hid behind my legs today on our walk when one went off (at quite a distance). She sat trembling. That dog really hates fireworks.

I need a holiday.

Long long wait

Not feeling well, = no exercise= feeling cold

BTW: I am listending to some Japanese "No" music, I dont’ know what it’s called – it’s written in Japanese.

Fan base

17 to 12°C- getting much cooler. Summer has finished.

Added a new fan to this computer- it’s a really quiet one so can be turned up to quite a fast speed. The remaining noisy one is in the power supply. Secondly: the new RAM, phoned the shot today & they suggested uprating the BIOS – so I wil give it a try, but it seem unlikely that the cause is there.
Finally- Pacific Fighters has ben upgraded slightly. tha 30MB patch has addeda new map and changed the flight dynamics in an interesting way.

No painting today-since I’m not feeling well enough.

Amazon are unreliable

17°C: probably the last few days of warmth this year.

Godspeed You Black Emporer- CD arrived today, ordered on 9th Sept from Amazon. It was listed with "available 2 or 3 days" beolw the page info. The majority of the order remains undelivered. the album is very good though.

Not much artwork to declare this weekend- so below is a scan from meeting notes instead.this can go in the School Planner section eventualy.
Half-term is almost here and so will the completion of another painting. It’s also valuable time to resume the Whitley animation. I’d like a few minutes ready by November; that will include some walk-by shots as well as some moving figures in the groundshots. Sound files are near-enough ready too.

Airshow 2

18°C, steady South Winds

Took my stepfather and a nephew to the Duxford airshow today. The lad got a ride on a tank careening around a muddy course also. The show smelt different this time- more parafin less petrol. Still is shorts weather, though I did feel chilly in the prop-wash of 7 spitfires preparing to take-off. A thoroughly good day .
See here

The ladies need a haircut.

RAM not good

16°C, much fresher, still warm for October though,

Installed new RAM  to this computer today. Currently holiding 1024MB- and the idea was to double it up. the new DIMM cards are not happy at all, I can get just one recognised and even then some programs lock up when trying to use the full amount.

Expecting an Amazon order to arrive Monday, it was ordered on the 9th September. this is poor. Amazon often advertise stuff on their catalogues that they don’t have or cannot get- that’s not a one-off either.
