D4; GR20 (stage 10): L’Onda to Vizzavona (the tempest).

The low route to Vizzavona. I walked with the German and French couples. We headed off into the trees and followed GR20 markers. It was a long walk but with companions, it was fun. They were lovely, the French were architects and the Germans – archeologists. You get the most interesting people on the trail. While walking, I got a second migraine. I don’t get the headaches, but the visual aura. I kept going. Eventually, we came out of the forest at Canaglia. A quiet village with a café open. We stopped for food but the woman running it seemed reluctant. I felt sorry for her because their electricity was cut off and she must be worried about her food stocks on this hot day.

When we got to Vizz’ by a path that followed the river, the village refuge was practically the first building by the Railway station. We got a bunkhouse room so we could sit out the next storm. Latest news was that it would hit in the night rather than the afternoon. We were safe.
