Thump thump.

Sunday.16°C white cloud, no wind and dry.
Thumping heart, sore throat and low energy. The first cold of the new academic year has come early this time. Last year, I was clear until after mid-winter.
This means no cycling and probably no more scrumping for apples on the way home.
Today, I hope to cook the fruit for freezing. Or, maybe a crumble.
The coming winter will be that bit more bearable when you can pull out fruit from the freezer to make something warming (to go with custard).
No cycling today then. Shame. The last two weeks have been good with about 170miles average over each week.

New term, ride 1.

18°C, E3. Sunny.
Tracked with MapMyRide! Distance: 24.99mi, time: 01:31:54, pace: 3:41min/mi, speed: 16.31mi/h.

Back to work, first ride home in this new term. Sitting all day in work does not help my tendon recover. This last two weeks has seen considerable improvement. It’s still stiff, but I can bear my weight easily. Couldn’t do that last term. I must get up and about more at work, even with long periods of admin. The swelling has mostly gone down, so both pretty much match.
Some splits were good today, but traffic spoilt others.

14*12

Sun. Sunny with a drying wind, NW 2.
14 stone 12 lbs. I lost a few pounds on that trip, but not as much as I expected. One year, I lost 8lbs! It’s nice to loose that feeling of softness around the middle. When I weigh less than 14*8, cycling is a lot more fun.
Tendonitus did flare up a few times. My approach to this is to do the physio exercises when it’s less stiff. My left leg remains noticeably weaker and needs building up. My walking pace is a little lowered because of this.

According to Maymyhike, I have burnt 22,000 Kcal in the week. That’s about twice the average weekly for me.

Midsummer dreams.

Rain, after 2 weeks of dry.
June dreams. My curtains are not dense enough. These early light mornings spoil sleep for many, me included. This week included the earliest sunrise of the year. There is a bonus, I often wake remembering dreams. It’s quite rare for me to be aware of dreams. Sunrise and the dawn chorus interrupt the usual sleep pattern. However, dreams are quite a revelation. I better not post details here though.

Picture– taken on a bike ride home. This has been a high milage week for me, in excess of 180 miles. Quite a lot outside holiday periods. My legs are getting sore.

Bumbus nesting.

21C, no wind, few slow clouds.
Rode 8speed, Distance: 32.91mi, time: 02:16:09, pace: 4:08min/mi, speed: 14.50mi/h.

Another slow ride; I bet this feeling drags on for another week. The sun shone brightly though.

Meanwhile on the home front- my immediate neighbours warned me about a wasps’ nest in my roof. Today it became clear that they are not wasps but bees. White-tail bumble bees. I hope the summer works out well for them.
Last year, there was a similar nest. It was ousted by wasps though, which seemed a pity.

Dislocated cold

10-20C later. Sunny.
I have a cold in my ankle. It works like this: sticky throat and gravel voice, but the problem tendon flared up during the afternoon yesterday. I definitely have a fairly normal cold, but what is the link with limb joints? Are there similar membranes to those in the throat?

Best without wind.

Cycle fixed: Distance: 55.6mi, time: 03:27:33, pace: 3:44min/mi, speed: 16.1mi/h. On 42×16.

On low rolling lands and light wind you can find perfect single-speed bike conditions. Even the hills don’t seem as intimidating as on a windy day.
Tendonitus flared up yesterday during a long drive. It does seem to get aggravated by long periods of sitting still. Three and a half hours of cycling has soothed most of it away. Odd how that happens.

This Laburnum at work is in full bloom, whereas mine at home shows no yellow at all. Perhaps view are different varieties. I know not.

New season.

Cycling, Distance: 63.23mi, time: 04:25:43, speed: 14.3mi/h.

First ride on the racing bike this year. It’s running as I left it, apart from new cables and bar tape. Though this tape looks all “retro”, it’s rather slippery compared to the spongy type on the other bikes.
The bottom braket still creaks, and the gear cables are a bit too short. Still, it was a great to ride; I always say that each spring.
Finally, there was no sign of the tendonitus that was a worry as recently as yesterday. Does that suggest that there is something about the winter bike that aggravates it? I have exercises to do which seem to help quite the problem with quick results.
