Winter rides
Arrow, 3°C, brisk SSE, clear with little ice left
Each gets slightly colder.y Achilles is showing little sign of improvement but when warmer days come…
Last ride (for 2022).
9°C, light breeze with drizzle and bouts of heavier rain.
Passed this large glasshouse in Banks. Look at the strange neon magenta glow.
End of year: later I’ll add the annual milage to the end of this page.
Annual Summary: below
Icebound
Drive to work.
Winter weather: in a winter forced layoff. Ice is the concern. Last night we had showers of rain which froze on contact with pavements. It’s too dangerous to run or cycle.
Summer
long walk 2020
2°C, sunny with a layer of hailstones.
This is one of my Covid-19 recovery walks. The roads are too icy for cycling this week but I’m itching to get the bike out and can’t – it’s not safe yet.
Hour and fifty in the gale.
11°C, gales from the west. Otherwise sunny
This house in Formby is under renovation at last. The designs are on a board by the road and it keeps some of the original. There are big modern metal and glass things to bolt on. They’re not exactly subtle integration, but at.least something is happening.
Zing in Aregno
30°C, fierce sun and thunder at end.
It’s that bike again. I’ve hired this one before but.some bits have changed. The gears and.wheels are new. It handles very nicely apart from a bent bar and slightly too short stem. The reach is a little short for me such that my knees can knock on the bars on steep climbs. 12cm would be better than this 10.
I have a frame the same at.home which remains unbuilt. This will spur on to get that project finished.
I’m encouraged by the handling, the bike holds true on straights and corners and feels light at the front end. No doubt this is helped by the Aksium wheels (which I will use at home also).
Heavy washout.
18°C, heavy rain.
All day. There are met office warnings of possible flooding. We’ve been spoilt by fine days this summer, I really fancy a bike ride today. Off to the garage to skulk around mending and servicing.
Later … A respite:
The tracks were dotted with puddles, often overlapping leaving the bike splattered with mud.
The machines and drizzle.
17°C, drizzle and onshore breeze.
I rode Paddy Wagon with MapMyRide+! Distance: 44.31km, time: 01:50:20, pace: 2:29min/km, speed: 24.10km/h.

Same route as last time but with claggy weather. The biggest difference was my energy, I was quite enfeebled. The machines felt heavier and I couldn’t do so many repetitions.
This next photo is puzzling, it looks like the grim reaper out on the mud flats.
I rode Jake with MapMyRide+! Distance: 6.29km, time: 25:40, pace: 4:05min/km, speed: 14.71km/h.

A quick evening ride to watch the sun go down. The sand flats go out miles into a big sky.
That was satisfying.
