Movable feast.

9C, bit grey.
I don’t like the clock change outside a holiday. Work today has been like struggling with a hang-over. Holidays should be fixed in my view. Another reason for disestablishment.
Good news today- Japan has been ordered to stop whaling.

Saturday headache.

7+C, S wind, smells of spring.
Every Saturday, I get the same headache. What is this- cumulative lack of sleep, stress from work? What can be done to fix it?
Had a good day at work yesterday- its was the DofE taster day in Sutton Park. Hard work, non-stop but refreshing. The sun shone, the spirit lifted and skin toned.
All smells of spring reminding me of the simple pleasure of hiking and camping. Easter- Wales, summer- the Highlands.
This year, I will do the things that can’t be done if you have a dog – Trifan and others.
I hope to find another dog in my life this summer. If it were just me, I’d have two. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have two poodles from the same litter.

Found a bird’s nest in the garden. It’s made of bits of spruce, dry moss, and white fluff. The fluff could easily be sheep’s wool, or even some synthetic stuffing. I can only presume the nest blew out of the hedge in recent gales.

Storm, storm, storm…

7C, strong SW wind, richer to come.
Achilles tendon- is very stiff now. Perhaps I need to go back to the physiotherapist. I am actually limping now and that gives me back-ache.
Heavy weather, strong winds are hammering the house from the south. My house is cold when it blows across the place. Winds that blow along the ridge are little problem.
3DS Max is currently rendering the latest version of the Pulsar animation. It now has a particle system to represent the polar emissions. There should be a gas stream in addition to the electro-magnetic beams that come from the poles.
Those gas streams are supposed to exit on the rotation axis, but I don’t understand why. My animation has them creating a helical cone expanding outwards.
Hope it works out because the projected render time is nearly 5 hours.

Easy autumn

8°C, mostly dry and calm.

November has been a forgiving month, despite the Daily Express headline that promised Arctic Blasts and a blanket of snow. We had a couple of frosty nights.decemberRides
It looks as though I am heading towards completing a 5,000 miles year cycling. Was it really only 15 years ago when I rode 8,000 miles each year?
I am visiting. When I come here, I can use bathroom scales. Yesterday, it said 15st 2lbs, this morning- 14st 9lbs. 5lbs in one night?

Workload

15ºC heavy showers,
I teach 17 groups which vary in size from 28 down to 12 kids. Most classes come in 16s. In all that makes 265 pupils, each of whom is supposed to receive one homework a week. For me, that makes fifty pieces to mark each day. That doesn’t count half-term projects that also need a grade, comment and associated paperwork. Every pupil is supposed to receive personalized learning, special needs for many and I am expected to know them all by name. Any advice?

It can’t be done can it?.

Backache.

17ºC, wind + rain
Recovery ride- with MapMyRide! Distance: 38.74mi, time: 02:35:56,

Recovering from backache, something that may stem from the cold that plagued my last 2 weeks. Perhaps the lack of exercise or excessive time spent in the car caused that.

This picture tells me to get a better phone, one with an auto-focus camera. Close shots like this would not need all that pixlr treatment to hide the blur.

Non-week

12°C, showers and grey.
No miles, still held up with this cold, but at least the plateau stage has gone. At this rate I could be back on the saddle by Wednesday.

The only exercise has been with the dog.
lodger: has upset my neighbour by parking over part of his dropped kerb. That makes it difficult to get his cars in or out. It sounds like the guy next door blew it by loosing his temper and threatened to damage the lodger’s car. I need to look this up because I suspect that it’s illegal to block access, but I am no expert. Perhaps it’s a civil matter, whatever that means.
The root of all this is there are simply too many cars.

Housekeep

18ºC,sunny.
Jobs done: it’s ironic that on a weekend at home, feeling ill, that I got more done than ever. Normally on a fine Autumn Sunday, I’d spend the day on the bike enjoying the landscape and sun.

Now, door-frame and gate post painted; patio cleared; curtains washed; garden cleared for winter and shopping done. An interesting job is coming up- part of a door frame is rotten, so I will cut out the bad bits and make new.
This headcold is past its worst, so I could be riding again later this week. A good result.
