I’ve been unwell for over a week now. Nothing serious but enough to deter me from cycling. Today, I ventured out but was aware of the empty feeling all the while.

Kona Paddy Wagon, 22°C, light NE, no cloud.
A grand day out.
12°C, half cloud, no wind and dry.

Good ride with some considerable improvement in the tendonitis. It stiffened up a little in the last 5 miles, but that’s all. It’s all on the mend.
6°C, light NW breeze, dry and light.

Better get some miles in. We’re expecting cold wintery weather this coming week. There may be snow. It’s only a few weeks to equinox and I’d like 1,000 miles by then. After this, I have 20 miles to go.
Tendonitis is still a problem. It clears and returns unpredictably. Cycling seems to help leading the stiffness reduced after a ride. Some days, but still limp.
6°C, light W, cold but clear and dry (mostly).

Set out in a morning of sun with a grey cloud looming. The forecast promised 0% chance of rain but there it was. A small cloud but slow moving. I turned back home to get a better raincoat. The rain was slow enough to stay in for lunch and then go back out. The rest of the day was very good. Also, I used the green machines.

8°C, moderate S, dry but damp.
It’s tough riding into the wind for long periods on a single-speed. The muscle burn builds up and slows you down.
Kona Paddy Wagon; 15°C, sunny with light Northerly.

The Queen’s funeral is today and we get a bank holiday. This has cleared the roads and, pretty much, the only people you see are dog walkers and cyclists. Rather like a cup final, this makes for an excellent cycling day. It means I don’t have to avoid those routes that carry tricky traffic . I also means no cafes are open nor any shops. I got lucky though, about half way there was a petrol station where I got snacks.
17°C, moderate NW.

24.8 kph (mean) is quick for me, a bloke in his late 50s. I’ve barely ridden the Paddy Wagon this summer but I jumped on it today. With little time, I put the hammer down and rode swiftly. This is possibly the fastest ride of the year by me.I ran this m
I ran this morning too!
Summary for the week. Warming up after a cool weekend. Strong sun and little rain.

Ridden the Zing, Jake and the Paddy Wagon this week. The first day felt hard and was rather disheartening, but as the week wore on – it felt more natural. I’ve worked away most weekends on DofE so that has interrupted my cycling habits.
Rides were 36.1+ 51.7+27.9+ 21.5+32.6 = 169.8km
So that’s 104 miles in 5 days. I’m happy with that even with the low pace of several.

Some repairs are pending. My summer road shoes are falling out of shape, the left tends to tilt my foot outwards which then changes the whole leg. My left knee sweeps outwards with each stroke and lowers the prower into the pedal that side. Those Carnac shoes are ancient, I’ve forgotten when I bought them, probably in the 90s. A new pair are on order.
Secondly, the headset on the Jake cross bike has gone notchy so I’ll get replacement races soon too. Next problem is lubrication in gear cables. Muc-off lube tends to dry up quickly making gear changes hit & miss. I’m going to try a heavier grade of oil. Maybe confine the thin dry lube to the shifter mechaisms.
10°C, brisk chilly SSE breeze. Endless blue sky

Single speed ride with manageable SSW wind. Feeling fit and set a decent pace for March. Made possible by blazing sunshine in a cloudless blue sky.
