Drive safely.

Very wet later. 10°C.
What can I do if I want to drive safely? I should use the motorway later today. But what can I do when I leave a space in front and cars cut in removing my stopping distance. Often they are cars moving back from the third lane where they all tail-gate one another. Nobody observes the two-second rule.

A long ribbon of dark cloud ran from the south-west. Under the darkest parts, the wind whipped up to quite a cold wet blast. William Turner would know this, I thought of him as I was blown along.

That tantalizing clear air did blow my direction, only about half an hour after this picture was taken outside Twycross Zoo.

Purloin the comestibles

3C. Heavy rain/sleet.
End of term. It’s getting faster- the passage of time. This certainly has been a long and tiring term. But, less tiring than usual. I credit those extended rides home for the feelings of refreshment and satisfaction. Some nights I clocked up 38 miles, made possible with those new lights. I should have bought them years ago. It’s. A feeling of freedom.
The season is about to change, officially speaking. Autumn was a remarkably mild and dry one. Dry roads reflect headlights well and we have seen little frost. This morning’s ride to work was a little nervous. A thin strip of had lined the gutters from a night of freezing rain.
Now, rest is within reach, but the stress of shopping looms. Fortunately, Christmas is early so we can get on and enjoy the holiday once it’s over..

A most satisfying day.

12ºC, 3/5 cloud, mod W.
CA:36 miles.
Jobs done– marking while Dave measured the staircase; replacement part for the clock-radio arrived; paint some outside door-frames; go cycling, and enjoy feeling recovered.
Every holiday is the same- feel semi-ill with tiredness for days on end, then come to life mid-week.
Even the bike rode in a more sprightly manner. Those two hours yesterday carefully cleaning the derailler gave sweet, almost silent gear changes. The sun shone.

Absurdly wet

16ºC, heavy rain.
Will this ever end? The world will be washed away eventually. I blame the comets, they brought it all here originally during the second heavy bombardment.
This weather causes steamed up glasses when I stop at traffic  lights, or out hiking it makes map-reading difficult. Maybe I should just have laser eye-surgery and have nothing to complain about.
Rainfall like this is said to continue all week. My needs are simple.

Housekeep

18ºC,sunny.
Jobs done: it’s ironic that on a weekend at home, feeling ill, that I got more done than ever. Normally on a fine Autumn Sunday, I’d spend the day on the bike enjoying the landscape and sun.

Now, door-frame and gate post painted; patio cleared; curtains washed; garden cleared for winter and shopping done. An interesting job is coming up- part of a door frame is rotten, so I will cut out the bad bits and make new.
This headcold is past its worst, so I could be riding again later this week. A good result.

Light the fire.

11C, strong westerly. Showers.

Autumn chill-
The picture is from the Chase, walk through a mixed forest and you can find a door somewhere remote. Like something from a children’s story, it cane out of the forest.
I had to light the fire last night, but the central heating stays off. I’d feel better about it if I didn’t wake so early today. 04.45 it was, wide, wide awake, so may as well get up. Now my head is heavy and thick with sleep. A lesser man would throw a sickie.

Last hot day?

21°C, clear start.
Heavy rain is coming tomorrow. Perhaps this will stand as the last day of summer.

I took a variation on yesterday’s route through lanes and villages. On a fine day like, this it was pure pleasure rather than a rush to get home.
Tomorrow, there may be heavy rain.
