cooling 49 miles

16°C, confused winds, CK:49 miles

Longer ride today on the Fixed, but less energy from me. Rode for 3 hours with slightly too-thin layers on. the effect is to drain away warmth that takes hours to replenish after getting home. I’m still a little chilly now. The, admittedly light, wind blew from the west today. But looking up at clouds that moved in another direction- is that what wind-shear is?

Have I really have got another 2 days off.

a certain repetition

+4°C, grey until the sun came out too late.

We’re stuck in a loop, cold grey nights and sun that breaks out in afternoons. The same commute on the same bike all week, leave work at the same time but somehow the groundhog feeling is diluted by the growing light. I know this is droning on, but really, 4 months of near zero and I’m tired of it.

My saddle has eaten through my trackies, it has stitching on top and I blame this with its friction burning though the fabric.

Week’s riding

4°C, getting frosty again.

High pressure means dry but getting colder this week. So, I’m trying to grab as many miles as I can before the weather decides to call a halt. Journey times are getting better, less than 1hr 20′ round trip to work again. that first week back was shameful.

Good with your hands

+3C, light cloud but missed the solar eclipse this morning.

It’s the time of year that people consider changing their career. Here is a good article BBC: greater job satisfaction, better pay and the feeling that you’ve actually done something in a manual job. ?What would I do? Plumbing, electrician or more probably something outside- fencing perhaps. My problem is vulnerability to backache. That rules out plumbing, or probably carpentry; too much twisting about in confined spaces.

Snow events

Snow, rather heavy. -1°C will drop to -4°

End of term, end of Mazda 6,start of a big rest. How nice to get the old faithful back; they’ve done a grand job on it. Despite liking some things about the car,  I’m not that impressed with the fuel economy though. It has no fuel meter, so it’s not until you re-fill that any economy can be calculated. It came out at 35mpg. I was expecting 10mpg more.

Holiday now, you can tell how much you need it by the listless empty feeling that I reported last July. there is a headache nearby and a roughness in my throat- but sod it, let’s blame the coal fire.

Arctic Blarst

4C, thin clouds.

Bad weather is rolling over the horizon, an ‘icy blarst’ say the weather reporters. Probably no more cycling this week. This seems to be all I post about these days, blame excessive workload for that. There is simply no time for painting.

bad words

-2C snow all day,

Turbo with Throwing Muses’ “Red Heaven”: about 35-40′ worth then. It’s magical how much better I feel for this. eaten by ants feeling has gone and maybe, just maybe, I am on the wind-down towards Christmas. this has been the worst term for a long time.

Meeting after work- these things draw on & was populated by bad words. New “policies have implications for staff”, it would make sense with “consequences”, unless something is implied?
Educationalists are quick to use the wrong words for things- impact/effect, pro forma/template, they are not synonyms I tell you.

Settling in

15°C, rather wet.

WordPress is as unreliable as other servers when it’s busy. 7pm is the worst time for many and it’s no different here. I will have to edit the style sheet, there is too much white-space here and the default fount is too large for my taste.

Tonight, I am marking some short essays by year 10s. The main question nods towards feminism and positive discrimination in the workplace.

Panic

19°C, nice day, wasted by work

Work-shock is largely over. Several nights of bedding down by 9pm did the trick. Before that, I was the undead. Now I am breathing and living again. the new CD player is nice; not decided on the best way to D-A conversion. Using the old DacMagic for now, but the newest version is a possibility. Maybe the onboard DAC is as good as (or better than) the external DacMagic 1.
