Fixie return.

12°C, light breeze, dry but dull

It’s easy to forget how much fun this bike is, especially when not ridden for 6 months I’ve put the winter wheels back on with at 17t cog. The rims are showing signs of wear but remember – next new year is the bike’s 10th anniversary.

I’ll pack away the Zing for the winter with do tube covers etcetera. The Paddy has been off the road since putting a new chain on which was too narrow for the cog. The orange wheels cog works fine. The mistake must be mine, so in future, I’ll stick with wide chains

3 rides.

23°C, light NE, no cloud.

Formby wreck

I don’t know how this can happen, it’s not what I call ‘Parked‘. Clearly, there is a gouge where the car skidded off the road but no rubber on the road.

Anyway, I rode on the fixed to get my new Zing bike for a loop. It’s running well apart from sticky gears. The upshift is worst which suggests a snagging cable. The fit is good now too.

New stem, but still the Shimano RS100 wheels.

Lockdown; metric century.

15°C, no wind, full sun.

Empty roads.

I should have taken a shot of the empty motorway – it was empty like I’ll never see again. Here’s a shot of a normally busy A-road instead. Today’s conditions were perfect – still, dry, and no traffic. I could have gone further but getting additional water is difficult during these unusual times.

The last few rides were on busy roads it’s like lockdown hasn’t happened. I guess there are lots of people still at work. Side roads were quiet.

Refreshed on fixed gear.

12°C, sunny and calm.

Short visit to the Green Machines. It’s good to.pull the bars while staring out to sea. The wind is light today, though a breeze pushes inland near the coast. These are ideal conditions for the fixed. It’s been so long since its last outing that the tyres were only on 30psi. These run best at 90psi. We’re in the last part of October, soon is the time to fit winter wheels.

Nearly 80!

20°C light SE, deep blue.

Out on the Paddy-Wagon on the summer wheels. The route is flat but the variety comes from downwind zooms and climbing into the wind.

Rode back with a guy who told be about some of his achievements: 2nd in national champs for cyclo-cross, 360 miles in a 24hr TT. Best bit, he will be 80 later this year.

That was a good ride for me, comfortable and quick.
