Feeling Fixed

19°C, light N, sunny and dry.

Conspiracy Tree.

33km/hr indicated a good ride by my standards. The first half of this year has been disappointing on the bike for me. It’s possible that I had something like long covid after the Alpha infection at Christmas. I’ll never know for sure.

Here’s another sad rant from some conspiracy nutter. They’ve printed slogans and stuck this one to an ash tree in the middle of nowhere. That itself is futile enough without unwittingly publicising their ignorance.

This was a satisfying day.

Fixie return.

12°C, light breeze, dry but dull

It’s easy to forget how much fun this bike is, especially when not ridden for 6 months I’ve put the winter wheels back on with at 17t cog. The rims are showing signs of wear but remember – next new year is the bike’s 10th anniversary.

I’ll pack away the Zing for the winter with do tube covers etcetera. The Paddy has been off the road since putting a new chain on which was too narrow for the cog. The orange wheels cog works fine. The mistake must be mine, so in future, I’ll stick with wide chains

3 rides.

23°C, light NE, no cloud.

Formby wreck

I don’t know how this can happen, it’s not what I call ‘Parked‘. Clearly, there is a gouge where the car skidded off the road but no rubber on the road.

Anyway, I rode on the fixed to get my new Zing bike for a loop. It’s running well apart from sticky gears. The upshift is worst which suggests a snagging cable. The fit is good now too.

New stem, but still the Shimano RS100 wheels.

Sticky stuff in Ainsdale.

11°C sunny but cool. Brisk S.

Blue sea air.

A fresh cool day where I rode to my house and in this ride, rode back. I headed south through Southport towards Formby. Then I heard a sellotape sound. There was a chemical spillage in the left hand side of the road. In some places, it was a few cm deep. Traffic had gone through it and spread it for a few kilometres to Ainsdale.

On narrow bike wheels, it felt unsafe. I couldn’t tell whether it was greasy, corrosive or what. It was viscose and odourless. Very strange. I tried dialling 101, the non-emergency police number I was.put onto hold for a very long time.

In the end, I gave up and rode on the pavement
