It stuck overnight, we certainly did not expect this much. Yesterday we hoped for a snow day but got slush. Today, the third day of spring, it’s proper snow, about 3 inches deep. Easterly wind is lifting this dusty snow, it’s drifting.

Drawing on: snow forecast for tomorrow, winter is stubborn this year. Yes, we have been spoilt by a string of early springs. Nearly Easter, but the magnolia is nowhere near in bloom.
Temperatures have topped 4°C over this last few weeks. At least I can ride to work, the ice is relatively minor.
Heavy Snow says the Met office. Winds will average 15 mph, so some drifting likely.

Drive today, much to my frustration. The Met-office have issued a rain warning for this afternoon. I dread riding on the dark, wet A-roads in poor visibility. Every winter hosts these pent up frustrations. The coming storm is no monster, but its timing is poor tonight.
I just don’t feel safe, but I’m always resentful when I have to drive a car.

So I set off for work feeling a bit put out. Nearing work, I followed an old Ford Fiesta. The brake light clusters were half full of water which sloped one way then the other as the car drove round corners. Each time the car stopped, the water would rock back & forth, damping away. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a floating object in there that looks like a fish.

The Weather was correct last year- early June days reached 24°C, and summer half-term saw me wading into a mountain lake for a paddle while walking up Nantlle Ridge. This year, the air is cool & rain has formed a strip across England & Wales. This is not the correct weather for June. Weather sometimes errs.
To avoid this cold front, I may camp up in the Lake District instead of (my preferred) Snowdonia. Bank holiday weekend in the lakes is likely to be busy with English visitors. Getting away from this town is more urgent than usual this year. The local Bower fair has driven me away for the last six years at some cost. But to compound the repellance, England has gone Jubilee mad. Wales is probably a better escape from kitsch royal patriotism than Cumbria. I bet there is some daft sod with union-flag bunting on their tent as I write. Not so in a Welsh campsite I predict.

Weather fronts moving up from the south will bring periods of uncertainty to areas of the Midlands. Locally, there could be patches of wild guessing amid spots of general accuracy. As the day wears on, expect some improvement overall but what actually happens remains open under the darkest clouds. The outlook for the week is of some days of normality ans some unseasonal accuracy too. Early reports from listeners in the far west indicate that a butterfly has flapped its wings, we will keep you informed on any developments on this channel during the coming week.

Met office have issued warning of smog over the weekend. they say that the still air and bright sunshine cause gasses in fumes to react and produce ozone. It’s a problem for asthmatics and kids, this is quite interesting. It’s interesting for me on days like this where I have been out on the bike. Sometimes, when I get home I have a little cough, a strange one that feels achey in my lungs. Could this be a hint of the “tightness” that asthmatics complain of?
Riding on the 16t: as the ride wore on, it started to feel right. There were a few difficult hills but I could touch 30mph on the descents so it’s all about compromise. Overall, the average speed should be up on the 17t cog. I bet that winter rides will need that 17t again though, the difficulty is spinning out on fast descents. I never can keep the speed up in the cold weather anyway.
