Dry salty roads, and a cold northerly.
Speed rose as time went by, and I turned for good only because I was cold. Wrong clothes.
It takes hours to warn up once home if you have been cold for along time. Days like these, I need a hot bath. The shower doesn’t do it.

Riding around rainbows.

Rain & sun, 6°C, brisk SW

A long ribbon of dark cloud ran from the south-west. Under the darkest parts, the wind whipped up to quite a cold wet blast. William Turner would know this, I thought of him as I was blown along.

That tantalizing clear air did blow my direction, only about half an hour after this picture was taken outside Twycross Zoo.

70 miles again.

14-18°C, clear, no wind.
To repeat last weekend, rode 70 miles late a slightly better pace and far more comfortably. The saddle didn’t tilt this time. That careful work with a jewelry file on the ferrule worked as intended.
Picture of the day is a young oak tree that has grown in the time I have lived in this town.

Summer spirit

23°C bright sun & winds. CR:33 miles.

What are these things I pass on my ride so often? The girders seem to be aligned north-south and are on a pivoting support. Will solar panels be fitted sometime soon? There are just the two structures pictured here, both connected to a trough dig into the grass.

It’s Sunday, the first after we broke up for the summer holiday. I feel the spirit of the holiday already which normally I don’t count until we get to Monday. We don’t work Sundays any time of the year but today is different. There is none of the pre-work nerves that so often blight this day of rest. So, let’s count today.

The Tour De France– Haven’t watched this for years, but the prospect of a possible British win drew me in. Bradley Wiggins & Mark Cavedish took 1, 2 this afternoon in Paris. An unbelievable result. I raise an imaginary toast. Can’t say I give a damn about the Olympics yet though.

Sunday morning rain.

14°C, rain. CR:?

rain & laundry

It would be dry if I'd left it in the house

Sunday is cyclingday, so I wake to rain and a washingline full of wet clothes. I face a grim choice: finish the last bit of painting in the attic, or attack the pile of marking while I wait for the clouds to lift. It’s a tough life.
